Leap Year Day happens because the earth takes just a little more than 365 days to go around the sun.

I have actually never met any other Leap Day baby, nor has much of my family or friends. Funny story... In the eighth grade we learned all about the solar system and how there's only 23 (point something) hours in a day, and how there's an extra day plopped in every four years to even out the day count per year. So one day my science teacher was wrapping up a lesson about February 29th, and he says to the class, "Be glad none of you are Leap Babies... God, I don't know what I would do if I only got a birthday every four years." I raised my hand, and said, "I was born on a leap day." My teacher gave me the WEIRDEST look, along with the rest of my classmates. Ha, yes, that was a fun day...
