Pope Gregory XIII, changed the calendar in 1582, among the things he did, was to make February 29th Leap Year Day.

I'm proud to be a leap year baby - I was born in a private maternity home in Anchorage Road, Sutton Coldfield (long since demolished). I've met only two other people who were born on February 29th and I now find myself in the bizarre situation of having three beautiful daughters who have each had more proper birthdays than me! In 2012 I was one of the very few people who took advantage of the offer on February 29th from Chiltern Railways to give free travel for the day to anyone who could prove it was their birthday. It would be great to get this scheme expanded in 2016 and I've started a campaign already amongst certain retail outlets in the UK (e.g. Costa, Chiquito Restaurants) for them to follow Chiltern Railways lead so that we can celebrate in style. If anyone would like to join me in this campaign, I'd love to hear from you!
