Jayden Stephen Daniel Penner

"It was all a pretty wild ride. The Jayden was born here at home as per plan, but we didn't do a water birth as it all became to rushed to set up equipment. We didn't even realize that Stephanie (mom) was in labour. On the 28th we had been at Stephs parents all day. Steph complained of some cramping and her mucous plug broke, but it could still take another week or two for labour to set in. We got home around 10:00pm and Steph took a bath while I did some email and stuff on the net. Then around 11:45pm and suddenly Steph is nauseated and vomiting and complaining bad cramps. I asked, ""are you having contractions"", she said ""no, more like cramps"". But she looked miserable, so I thought either this is a labour or there is something really wrong. I called the midwife who didn't think we were in active labour yet, mainly due to our poor description of what was happening. However I started counting the cramps she was having and it must be contractions , and they are like two minutes apart and a minute long. I called the midwife again and when she got here within a few minutes, Steph was fully dilated and ready to go. It was quite a shock as we expected gradual onset of cotnractions and we would have time to setup. Steph had to wait yet another hour because she needed IV antibiotics for Group B Streptococcus. Something only 25% of adults have but can be very bad for the baby. She had to have the meds in her system for at least an hour. Normaly during labour it is given every 4 hours until birth. So we waited an hour and 15 minutes, and they told Steph she could start pushing. Steph was pretty funny during labour making funny one liners about penises and other stuff. Then she says, we are going to have to have a birthday party every 4 years, and I'm like, ""huh?"" thinking she is getting delusional. Then she says, ""it's a leap year!"" I was stunned. ha ha. So from about 11:45pm and the baby being born at 2:32am on a leap year, it was pretty quick. The midwives were surprised as well that it was so quick. They said next time they will move in at the first hint of labour. Stephs mom and my mom were here. My mom showed up just in the nick of time to see the delivery @ 2:15am. It was all pretty wild!!!!!!! So we have a little baby boy, 8 lb, 3 oz, 21.5"" long. Name is ""Jayden Stephen Daniel Penner"". Stephen for Stephanie's dad, and Daniel for my dad's and my middle name. Our official due date was suppose to be March 17th, but the midwives feel he was full term as he further along in development. Closer to 39 weeks, then 37 weeks."
